We were talking about re-mixing in class, and one of the sites my daughter likes is about Harry Potter. There is a link called "essays" in which regular people post essays on topics from the book, kind of like an extra bit.
I thought it was a new twist on an old idea is all.

A note on blogging
I've been blogging for a while now, and something I've noticed is that for the most part, people may read your blog, but rarely post a response.
I've received some pretty weird responses on occasion, but then I tend to post some fairly off the wall ideas.
I decided I'd put in the link to a blog I wrote a few months ago, its pretty controversial, leaves little to the imagination as to my political leanings, and received not a single comment. :) *snicker*
But then there have been other's in which I was invited to attend a church meeting, join an online group whose sole purpose was to "save" me, and a few others in which I was offered insurance, viagra, and a whole host of other strange things.
A couple weeks ago if I had been asked i would have said that I write for me, well unless it's an assignment, but I now realize that I almost always write for an audience. Whether it is to play devil's advocate and push peoples buttons, jerk them out of their complacency, or just to spout off from my soap box, I really want to know I've been heard. And when I don't think anyone is paying attention then my attention wanders somewhere else.

It's not as easy as it looks
My blogs have always been split between my political/social/religious commentary and my personal life. A blog on my academic and/or writing life is unusual and I'm finding a bit difficult.
As a non-traditional student with a family, it's hard to find time to sit and just write. My favorite time is early in the morning when everyone is gone or asleep.
This last two weeks though we've been house hunting so we can move, so all of my books, all of my comforts that usually surround me at my desk are all packed. It's strange and slightly uncomfortable.

First week
First week of classes, two of which require a blog. Not that I mind so much, it's just that I have two already, though they are fairly personal. What the hell? What's another one, right?
Class one in which we examine the history of writing, including my own.
Class two in which we examine other forms of "writing", such as the picture I posted. It defies words on a page for me, yet, if you've never been there, it might just be a pretty picture.
Enough for now.
